Pile of Birds

Hello!  Sharing a card today that took a different direction than I originally intended.  I wanted to play along with the current Papersmooches challenge "Black and White with a Pop of Color".  My card ended up being color with a pop of black and white.  I stamped the birds on watercolor paper than used masking fluid to cover the images before water coloring the background.  The water color paper I used is very off white which clashed with a white card base.  I also wanted to enter in the Simon Says Stamp "Polka" challenge.  I searched my stash of patterned paper and could not find a polka dotted paper that did not clash with the off white birds so I embossed the card base instead.
I have had this set of Papersmooches stamps ("My Peeps")  for probably four years now, which makes this card eligible for the challenge at Retro Rubber, keyword RRCB36.

  1. Love all of your feathered friends who gathered to say thanks! The colors look so fresh with the black and white. I have also noticed that not much coordinates with watercolor paper and it really does keep me from using it more often. Thanks for playing along with our challenge at Retro Rubber and hope you will be back in our gallery soon.

  2. Oh my gosh!!! I was just watching a few videos on how to do a dark to light color wash and here you are, with this beautiful card using exactly that technique!!
I love the fact you left your sweet birds white, they totally pop out of this card.
I was also thinking that there is no way you can create masks of all of this little critters so, masking fluid is the answer!!
I'm going to get some today.
Thank you for joining us at Retro Rubber for our water challenge and I hope you play along again for the next one.

  4. Kelly, not sure if this will be a repeat comment, but I got so involved in looking up masking fluid that I might have forgotten to tell you what a great card this is. Love the watercolor splash and am anxious to use masking fluid when it arrives from Amazon, LOL. Wonderful challenge image for Retro Rubber. And we certainly appreciate you mentioning the age of your images. Hope to see you play often!
