Alcohol Ink Sympathy Card

Hello!  My card today is for the challenge at A Blog Named Hero.

Image may contain: text

Because this is a sympathy card I wanted to use soft colors.  First I created the background using alcohol inks on Yupo paper.  Start with a generous puddle of Ranger Alcohol Ink Blending solution.  Next working quickly add the alcohol inks, give the colors time to spread and blend.  To help the inks move I used a puffer tool used for cleaning camera lenses.  While the ink is still a bit tacky I used a scrap of gold foil to add some shine.  The foil had been used and had a bit of pattern in it which worked well.

When the background was dry I used a Misti tool and archival ink to stamp the Hero Arts images from the set "Make a Fountain".  I use a stamp positioner because I find it a bit tricky to stamp well on Yupo Paper.  I ended up re-stamping the image a couple of times because I used the positioner it was an easy fix.  Next I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on velum.  To finish of the card I added a layer of Hero Arts cardstock.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope to see your work shared at A Blog Named Hero.

Foiled Birthday

The theme at the current A Blog Named Hero Challenge is "Embossing'.

I used an embossing paste meant for foiling on my card (Deco Foil Transfer Gel).  To hold the stencil in place I taped it to the back of the black cardstock, you can see a bit of the tape in the top of the photo below.

I wanted it to turn out a bit imperfect looking or distressed, so I only applied the paste to part of the card front.  I let this dry for over an hour as per the instructions.  It must be mostly clear but don't let it dry for too long or it will lose the tackiness needed to apply the foil.

I used some Heidi Swapp Minc foil and a laminator. After foiling I splattered it with white paint.

The sentiment is heat embossed with my go to white embossing powder from Hero Arts.

Lots of different ways to use embossing on a card.  Please share your embossing techniques at A Blog Named Hero.

For You

Just got some Deco Foil transfer Gel and tried it out today, really fun stuff.  I applied the Deco Gel to card stock through a stencil.  I let the gel dry for a couple hours then ran the card stock through a laminator with foil.  The gold foil really shines.  For the flowers I applied Distress ink in three shades to bristol paper then diecut using the flower dies from Concord and 9th (Floral & Flutter).  The sentiment is also two stamps from Concord and 9th (Lily).

I was inspired to make this card by 2 challenges; Where Creativity Meets C9 and Inspired by All the Little Things.
